The Southern Area Concert Band Inc. is one of Victoria's premier community-based music organisations. Sponsored by the City fo Kingston and based in Moorabbin, the Southern Area Concert Band family has been contributing to Melbourne's rich cultural life by providing award-winning quality music to the public since 1971. Our membership of over 50 regular members consists of amateur and semi-professiona musicians from all around Melbourne ranging from school students to retirees. The Southern Area Concert Band family consists of four ensembles: The Southern Area Concert Band, the Southern Area Wind Band (our training band), the Southern Stars Stage Band and the Southern Area Events Band.

We are seeking to appoint a Music Director who will provide artistic direction to the entire Association and take up the role of Principal Conductor of the Southern Area Concert Band. The following attributes are required:

  • Demonstrated ability in the role of Conductor.
  • An ability to work well with players of varied ability and experience and to help develop and maintain a strong sense of morale within the band.
  • Commitment to the development of the SACB to its highest musical potential as an inclusive community band.
  • A well-developed arranging and/or orchestration capability will be highly regarded.

The Concert Band rehearses on Monday nights from 7.30pm-9.30pm at the NG Wishart Senior Citizens' Hall, 964 Nepean Highway, Moorabbin. The SACB is a competing B-Grade concert band and member of the Victorian Bands' League. The SACB provides music for a variety of community events each year including its own two major concerts in May and September at the Kingston City Hall and the annual Bayside Carols at Dendy Park, Brighton. Rehearsing music in a relaxed and nurturing environment is a priority for SACB, ensuring an enjoyable experience of playing in a community ensemble. The MD receives an annual honorarium.
